Valentine’s Day was on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Valentine’s Day is traditionally a day when we show how much we care for people who are important in our lives. It was coincidence that the Waterville School District “Maintenance & Operations Levy” and “Capital Project Levy” ballots were due on February 14, 2012, but it was not a coincidence that the Waterville community showed how much they care for our school and education by voting “yes” on both initiatives!
The staff, students, and Board of Directors of Waterville School District wants our community to know how much we appreciate the confidence and trust that you have shown us with your votes. We are committed to keep the district moving in a positive direction, and to producing Waterville graduates who have strong 21st Century skills who can make a positive impact in the world! We thank you for your support and are excited to continue our educational partnership.
We are proud of the positive direction that the district is moving to help ALL students succeed! We ask that you join us in celebrating several new initiatives in the Waterville School District that are helping our staff and students achieve district goals:
- Membership in the Math Leadership Alliance – this brings us professional development for teachers, mentorship by leading Math experts, intentional work in curriculum, assessment, and data interpretation.
- Participation with eight other NCESD districts in the Teacher Principal Evaluation Pilot. This state initiative will be in place in 2013-14 and we are on the “cutting edge” of this work by our involvement in this pilot program.
- School Improvement Planning team has been meeting since October; this group’s goal is to create a document that will become the foundation of school improvement in teaching, learning, facilities, school climate and school safety.
- School Board Policy update process began in late summer of 2011 and will continue over the next several months. The goal of this process is board policy that is current, aligned with state law, and supports the day to day operation of the Waterville School District.
- District wide “Leadership Model” continues to grow and flourish across all grade levels. Our goal is to develop personal and social leaders who can take responsibility for their own learning and who will recognize and act upon their connection to the world.
- Facilities/Maintenance: A $100,000 Urgent Repair grant will replace the school’s fire protection sprinkler system this winter. The successful Capital Project Levy of February 2012 will provide a new roof on the school building. The new Maintenance Technician position is addressing the building maintenance issues and will work towards the goal of “preventive maintenance.” The “Facilities Planning Team” will continue to meet to prioritize needs.
Our pledge is to continue to partner with our community to bring a quality education to our students. We welcome your input, your comments, your questions, and your participation in this process. We value the support you gave us on February 14 with your votes, and we will work hard to earn your continued support! THANK YOU!
